Spanish sculptor Jaume Plensa (b. 1955) is a leading figure in contemporary global art. Working across various media—including drawing, sculpture, printmaking, theater design, and multimedia installations—he explores the expressive and mysterious nature of the human form, often depicting seated or kneeling figures in a contemplative pose.

His works have been exhibited in major art venues such as the Jeu de Paume in Paris, the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds, and the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona.

Two of his sculptures—Love, Hatred, Spirit (2012) and Sun, Moon, Earth (2012) from his Poets serir —are on view at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts, at the levels of the Cascade Complex. The seated figures atop tall metal pillars are illuminated at night.
