The Exhibition Ara Harutyunyan: Monumental Vision Opened at CCA

March 31, 2018
The opening of the Exhibition, Ara Harutyunyan: Monumental Vision, dedicated to the 90th birthday anniversary of the artist, took place on March 30, 2018 at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts.

Ara Harutyunyan (1928-1999) was one of the most celebrated Armenian monumental sculptors of the Soviet era. Today his monumental creations are spread in many post-soviet republics and all over the world. Ara Harutyunyan’s artistic legacy is multilayered: monumental and monumental-decorative works, sculpture portraits, gravestones, dozens of drawings and graphic works. He is the author of the monumental sculpture Mother Armenia installed on the heights of Yerevan, becoming one of the most popular symbols of Armenia.

The exhibition presents approximately 60 pieces, including sculptures and graphic works from Ara Harutyunyan’s family collection, which provide insight to the multifaceted approaches and creative vision of the artist. The exhibition, Ara Harutyunyan: Monumental Vision has been implemented in cooperation with the Ara Harutyunyan Foundation.

“Ara Harutyunyan’s art is inspiring, harmonious, full of national spirit and does naturally integrate with the environment. This conveys special meaning, content and life to his works. We are confident that the exhibition, Ara Harutyunyan: Monumental Vision will provide a rewarding experience for the public to newly appreciate the artist’s significant contribution to Armenian art”, - said Vahagn Marabyan, the Acting Executive Director of CCA.

The exhibition, Ara Harutyunyan: Monumental Vision, though dedicated to the 90th birthday anniversary of the artist, is not a retrospective show. Artworks from different creative stages are presented revealing the sculptor's rich artistic language and his central role on the pages of Armenian sculptural art.

The public dates for the exhibition are March 31 to June 10, 2018. The admission will be free of charge.
