Multidimensional Rudolf Khachatryan

The Exhibition Multidimensional Rudolf Khachatryan is dedicated to the 80th birthday anniversary of the celebrated Armenian artist. Rudolf Khachatryan (1937-2007) had a versatile oeuvre with varied artistic periods, leaving a rich legacy. The exhibition features artworks from private collections, as well as from the National Gallery of Armenia and the Modern Art Museum of Yerevan. 

Through this exhibition the Cafesjian Center for the Arts presents the whole artistic path that Rudolf Khachatryan traveled from the 1950s to the 2000s. The exhibition Multidimensional Rudolf Khachatryan includes not only the famous realistic artworks on gesso, but also the unique characters and sculptures from the artist’s late period, as well as pieces from the early period, revealing Rudolf Khachatryan as a “multidimensional” artist.
 
The exhibition dates are March 23, 2017 to June 4, 2017. Public admission will start from March 24, free of charge.

Rudolf Khachatryan was born in Yerevan in 1937. In 1951 Khachatryan attended Yerevan Fine Art College for a few months, but was expelled over disagreement on educational principles. In 1952 he met Ervand Kochar who became young artist’s mentor and friend. Since 1955 the artist participated in local and international exhibitions. In 1960 Khachatryan became a member of the USSR Artists’ Union. In the 1950-1960s he was awarded gold and silver medals in the scope of various festivals. In 1961 the State Gallery of Armenia acquired several portraits of Armenian cultural intellectuals by Rudolf Khachatryan. Since 1971 he lived and worked in Moscow. In 1977 he became Honored Artist of Armenia, and in 1984 People’s Artist of Armenia. In 1989-1994 the artist worked and lived in London. In 1997 Rudolf Khachatryan was awarded the Medal of People’s Friendship by the President of Russian Federation, Boris Yeltsin. In 2002 he became a corresponding member of the Academy of Fine Arts of Russia. In 2003 Khachatryan was awarded RA Medal of Movses Khorenatsi, as well as the Gold Medal of the Franz Kafka European Organization. The artist died in Germany in 2007.
